Senior Linux Engineer

Duration: 12 months

Location: Owings Mills, MD

Minimum Requirements:

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • At least five years of experience architecting, deploying and supporting Red Hat Satellite Server and Puppet (prefer recent experience with Satellite Server 6, Puppet and Ansible Tower)
  • At least five years of system administration experience in Linux environments and proficient in tasks such as shell scripting, creating cron jobs, analyzing log files, managing user accounts and groups, configuring firewall rules, and setting up mail services.

Core Requirements:

  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written correspondence) in a professional and courteous manner with technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Enhance processes and procedures to perform automated daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Install and configure systems which support infrastructure and/or research and development activities.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Contribute to, document and maintain system standards.
  • Contribute to, document and maintain security posture of the system in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks.  Identify approaches that leverage resources.
  • Deployment and provisioning of the RedHat Satellite Server services.
  • Install operational and security patches on the RedHat managed systems.
  • Document and prepare compliance evidence associated with patching, baseline monitoring and system recovery activities.
  • Support security and health monitoring activities.
  • Support daily backup and recovery operations.
  • Support ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization. 
  • Support investigating and troubleshooting issues to include coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Prefer experience documenting system configuration and evidence of compliance associated with regulatory standards.
